Today our own Lisa Marie Corso introduces us to someone whose work you’ve already seen a fair bit on TDF, but who we've technically never formally introduced! Lisa is rectifying that oversight today with a little feature on emerging Melbourne based lifestyle photographer, Brooke Holm! This girl is gonna go far! - Lucy

Today’s NKOTB is a little different than usual, as we're focussing on someone whose work you’re actually already seen on TDF, but technically have never formally been introduced to! I am referring, of course, to the incredible
Brooke Holm! Brooke is a young Melbourne based photographer who prefers to be behind rather than in front of the lens, but after a gentle prod has allowed us to share her story.
Brooke is a bit of an enigma. 'I've always been a little shy, which is why hiding behind a camera suits me perfectly,' she says. Aside from seeing her beautiful shots pop up on TDF from time to time, you might have also stumbled across her beautiful
Instagram account, which has developed somewhat of a cult following over the past year or so! I have been present when people have met her for the first time and had a bit of a fan girl moment - ‘Are you THE Brooke Holm? I love your photos!’ is a common response.
Originally from California, Brooke moved with her mother and three sisters to Brisbane when she nine years old (she still has a slight twang of an American accent left over). She knew she always wanted to do something creative, but wasn’t quite sure how to channel this until her early twenties, when she was working at an ad agency. 'I was doing random jobs like taking out bins and fetching milk' explains Brooke. 'One day the agency needed me to take some photos, so I did. They loved them and then I just kept doing it. It was the first time I felt completely happy at work, so I decided to try and make a career out of it.' After deciding to take the plunge and turn her passion into a full-time gig, Brooke moved to Melbourne in 2011, where she initially worked as kikki.K’s staff photographer, before building up enough clients to go freelance. In the year and a bit since, her work has been published in
Inside Out, Cereal, EST, Frankie, Yen, Fete Press, Peppermint, Der Grief, and
South African House & Garden.
Outside of editorial work, Brooke also regularly collaborates with her stylist BFF
Marsha Golemac. The pair package their photography-styling skills, and often do commissioned work for local retailers and creative businesses. 'We're always plotting our next move over cups of tea' says Brooke. 'It's really incredible having someone who you completely trust and respect to push you and encourage you to think outside the box,' says Brooke of her talented bestie, Marsha.
Brooke is also a regular teacher at Megan Morton’s
The School, where she hosts a series of super popular beginners
101 Photography classes. 'My class is the kind of the photography workshop I wish I had access to when I was learning to use a camera' says Brooke. 'I teach everyone how to use their camera, how to utilise natural light, the basics of manual settings and some composition and editing techniques. Confusing technical jargon is not included!'
Even though Brooke professionally specialises in interiors, product and food photography, she's in her element outside of the studio surrounded by nature, and has a particular penchant for photographing mountains! Her annual travel plans are usually dictated by proximity to mountainous terrain, and she owns legit hiking boots to ensure she can trek deep into the wilderness for that perfect National Geographic-worthy shot!
Brooke's next Photography 101 class is happening on November 4th in New Zealand, as part of The School's New Zealand Roadshow!
