I think we can safely call 2015 the year of the indoor plant. We’ve seen so much lush plant life feature in the homes and creative spaces we’ve visited this year, and of all the trends we’ve seen come and go, we’re hoping this one is here to stay.
Of course, to support the trend, we’ve also seen a plethora of varied plant vessels enter the market – from handpainted pots to decorative macrame hangers, retro-inspired wire plant stands and everything in between. Our latest discovery in this category is Melbourne based Capra Designs, who have just launched with a smart new collection of handmade resin plant pots, metal plant stands and hanging planters.
Bianca Lambert and Thomas Wilson are the industrious Melbourne couple behind Capra Designs. Thomas is a carpenter by trade, and a hands-on maker, whilst Bianca is an arts marketer by profession and an avid crafter. Partners in both life and business, Bianca and Thomas have collaborated closely to create their debut range.
Bianca has spent the past year colour testing and experimenting with pour techniques in order to generate different colours and marbled patterns in her range of colourful resin pots, which are all handcrafted in her Abbotsford studio. Meanwhile, the metal stands have been designed and prototyped by Tom, and are now manufactured locally in Victoria. ‘This first range evolved out of both of our individual interests; I found myself playing with water based resin, and Thomas with his latest toy, his welder!’ explains Bianca.
Having launched their fledgling brand just last month, Bianca and Tom are thrilled with the positive response so far, and have already picked up a major stockist in popular local retailer Modern Times. The pair are already developing new pieces for launch next year, including an expansion of their current range of plant vessels and stands, as well as other homewares. Watch this space!
