Considering the average person spends about one-third of their entire life at work, a calm, aesthetically pleasing office can be a major morale booster! Queensland-based property developers Synergy offers its staff a versatile, well-designed HQ that almost feels like they’re coming home.
The original Queenslander underwent significant structural changes and additions under the keen eye of architect Sandy Cavill from Cavill Architects and builder, Abri Projects. The home was raised to allow for a new entry, meeting space, stair and car accommodation, and the upper level was transformed into a large open plan office with directors office, communal kitchen space and roof terrace over the new garage extension.
Alexandra MacMillan, who has completed multiple projects for the firm, oversaw the internal layouts, from finishes and fixtures including lighting, tile selections, and joinery as well as furniture and styling. ‘The focus of the interiors was to create a space that felt serene and inviting, almost like an office within a home’ Ally explains, ‘a place where all staff felt comfortable enough to move their workspace from roof terrace to lounge, desk to courtyard’. Given the Synergy directors have young families, it was important that the space was one the whole gang could comfortably come to visit.
Set against a white backdrop, layers of blue and green with accents of dusty pink and grey were used in finishes and furniture to create a cohesive sense of calm. This tranquility is further enhanced by a lush internal courtyard, centred around a large ficus tree positioned to create not only a spectacular feature on the ground level, but also to capture glimpses of while moving through the upper levels of the building – ‘it truly is the hero of the space’.
The Synergy team are certainly onto something with this work environment! If we’re ever in need of a Brisbane hot desk, we know who we’ll be calling!
