It may sound strange, but there are literally so many different occasions where you need a nice towel. You want something fancy to hang ornamentally in the bathroom; something generous and distinctive to mark out your spot on a busy beach; something luscious and cosy to wrap yourself in after a shower; and something super absorbent for a full day of dipping in and out of the pool.

There are also lots of criteria to consider: absorption, fluffy lushness, pattern, length, width, colour. The pursuit for the perfect towel is never-ending!

Started by a husband and wife duo in the Northern Rivers of NSW, Mayde towels are made in Turkey from lightweight cotton, and come in both beach and bath varieties!

Castle

Towels are the newest product in Rachel Castle’s kingdom of colour, with the range of hand-loomed bath towels launching just last year.

The two-tone design separated by a scalloped line comes in four colour combos: peach and amber, blue and grey, pink and raspberry, caramel brown and blue. While the Nuddy Towel contains a classic Rachel Castle slogan, as well as all the tassel-y, ribboned trimmings!

Baina

It’s a good time to be in the check-printed homewares game, but New Zealand-based brand Baina were arguably the instigators of the whole micro-trend! Anchored in a simple but classic scheme of colours and prints, the brand’s designs are inspired by art, sculpture and architecture.

Baina towels are made in Portugal from GOTS certified organic cotton and are available in hand, bath and beach varieties. Buy a bundle pack to score multiple patterns.

Kip&Co

Fan favourites Kip&Co are no stranger to a bold pattern and colour, which is why we just can’t go past their hand-loomed cotton towels that come in so many fun patterns, from a textured, tassled wrap to waffle-style tartan print.

Købn

Købn have been making waves (hehe) in the local towel world since their launch in 2018.

Started by textile designer and Melburnian, Sophie Matson, the serene contemporary designs are realised in muted colours such as olive, clay, sand and black, although pops of crimson, forest green and hot pink also make sporadic appearances. Super chic!

Marimekko

Finnish company Marimekko are creators of some of the most recognisable prints ever to circulate the globe. So naturally, their towels were a must-have inclusion!

Choose from sleek black and white, bright raspberry stripes, their signature Unikko floral print, and more.

Tekla

Copenhagen-based Tekla aren’t local, but they’re soft and scrumptious products are too excellent not to include (and stocked by Pan After, so we figure that counts!).

Made using 100% organic and Oeko-Tex certified cotton, and woven with extra thick 600-gram Terry cotton, these are as soft and absorbent as they are beautifully printed. The bath towels are available in solid colours such as mint and lavender, or striped with plum and baby blue.

Loom Towels

Designed in Melbourne, these luxurious towels from Loom Towels are hand-loomed by a small team of makers in Southern Turkey and dyed using . Given their artisan credentials, each design is made in a limited production run of just 75-100 pieces.

All pieces the brand produces are GOTS organic certified.

Lüks is a Melbourne-based company inspired by international holidays – hey, we can dream!

The Avalon and Co

The debut product of Australian brand The Avalon & Co is a beauty! Modern Love is an oversized towel (coming in at 170cm x 170cm) designed in Melbourne and handcrafted in one of the oldest mills in Portugal from 100% cotton.

The simple lunar design looks like a Hannah Nowlan painting!
