Over the last year and a half, we have featured industrial designer Nicole Lawrence, florist Hattie Molloy, Georgia Brunmayr of Curio Practice and Lily Mora of Sunday Salon, as they have each burst onto the creative scene with new and exciting endeavours. Nicole even won the Emerging Designer award at the TDF + Laminex Design Awards this year!
But what these promising emerging creatives missed out on in close to two years of a pandemic, is the chance to form an in-person community around their practices. To remedy that, they have come together as a collective, launching a new month-long pop-up showroom and shopping space on Gertrude Street in Melbourne.
‘We are all emerging creatives and have all worked together before in previous creative shoots,’ says Nicole on behalf of the quartet. ‘We found we all admired each other’s practices, so we decided to come together to showcase all of our work in one physical space after such a long period of connecting with our clients and community only online.’
In addition, each business is founded and operated by women, and produce all their pieces in Australia. Love that!
The space contains the full range of merino wool Curio Practice blankets (which are made ethically in Melbourne – more on that here) in king, queen and baby sizes; a selection of Nicole Lawrence Studio powder-coated furniture and lighting; the Sunday Salon December collection of art by local creatives; and Hattie’s cult-status calendars, prints, caps, homewares and vases (the latter created in collaboration with Nicole).
Though functionally a shopping location, the showroom is also a bold and fantastical concept space featuring a floral installation by Hattie and carefully curated in-situ objects. Art by Emma Creasey, Lucy Anderson, Jordy van den Nieuwendijk, Pia Murphy, and Ella Dunn (all curated for sale at Sunday Salon) adorn the walls of the rear corner, above a bed sheathed in Curio blankets and a Nicole Lawrence shelf used as a side-table.
Just another excellent reason to shop local this Christmas!
The pop-up showroom space can be found at 225 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy from Saturday 27th November to Tuesday 28th December.
