The Houses Awards is an annual celebration of Australia’s best residential projects, presented by Houses magazine. Prizes are awarded to projects in Australia across nine different categories, with the best house receiving the ‘Australian House of the Year’ award.
This year, that accolade went to Brisbane based Vokes and Peters, for their Auchenflower House. The residence was also named as a joint-winner in the ‘House Alteration and Addition Under 200 Square Metres’ category.
With entries spanning an array of practice scales, specialisations and locations, overall the awards provide a unique insight into contemporary residential design and the contribution Australia’s architects are making to our built environment.
Other honoured projects include:
Balnarring Retreat by Branch Studio Architects in Balnarring, Victoria took out the ‘New House Under 200m²’.
Fish Creek House by Edition Office in Foster, Victoria, was awarded the ‘New House Over 200m²’.
Auchenflower House by Vokes and Peters was also awarded again, alongside A Pavilion Between Trees by Branch Studio Architects in Balnarring, Victoria, for the ‘House Alteration and Addition under 200m²’.
Street House by ME in Burleigh Heads, Queensland took out the ‘House Alteration and Addition over 200m²’. And the practice was also highlighted as the ‘Emerging Architecture Practice’.
Bobhubski by March Studio in Falls Creek, Victoria was awarded in the ‘Apartment or Unit’ category.
Waterloo House by Anthony Gill Architects with Budwise Garden Design in Waterloo, New South Wales received the ‘Outdoor’ prize.
Two Victorian houses, the Fish Creek House by Edition Office in Foster, and Garden Pavilion by BLOXAS in Brunswick tied for the ‘Sustainability’ award.
Jac by Panov Scott Architects in Dulwich Hill, New South Wales took out the ‘House in a Heritage Context’ honour.
