Aboriginal-owned clothing brand Amber Days and designer Michelle Jackson of La Terre Press have come together for a new collaboration that’s launched just in time for summer.
The Sun Dancer collection features oversized t-shirts, sarongs, effortless maxi dresses, and resort-style matching sets, all adorned with Michelle’s custom prints she created for exclusively for the range.
These pastel pieces were first revealed earlier this year at Melbourne Fashion Week — something Amber Days founder Corina Muir says was an especially ‘surreal’ moment as a proud Yorta Yorta and Boonwurrung woman.
She says it was an honour to work with Michelle, who is also a proud Gamilaraay woman, and to represent First Nations art and creativity at the Le Meridien Poolside opening runway.
‘It was pretty amazing seeing our label at Melbourne Fashion Week alongside some of Australia’s best designers, designers that I look up to,’ Corina adds.
The prints in the collection were inspired by Michelle’s deep connection with Bundjalung Country on referencing the ‘incredible dusk colours that dance in the sky along Tallow Beach at dusk, and the sparkling sun dancing on the blue water at Broken Head’.
It’s a beautiful tribute to the landscape of the New South Wales South Coast, and respecting the natural world is a big part of Amber Days’ ethos too. All the garments in the collection are made from Global Organic Textile Standard-certified organic fabrics and non-toxic dyes, helping to reduce the brand’s environmental footprint.
‘It’s so hard to pick favourites from this collection,’ Corina says. ‘I just love how everything is so easy to wear and the fabrics feel so great on your skin!’
