Mark Tuckey and Main Studio have teamed up to design an innovative new collection aiming to reimagine the future of Australian furniture design.
Known as ‘The Making of Material’, the collection is the product of agroforestry — which, simply put, combines agriculture and trees. When farms practice agroforestry, they can promote biodiversity, improve livestock health, and produce high-quality timbers to simultaneously diversify their income while enhancing land productivity.
Originally exhibited at Melbourne Design Week 2025, Mark Tuckey x Main Studio’s curated furniture collection is handmade from agroforestry timber originating from Yan Yan Gurt West Farm in the Otway region of Victoria.
Pieces include the Main Chair — a timeless armchair that invites pause and connection — made in solid 40mm hardwood with a winged arm detail.
The Horizon Table is a strong and versatile piece fit with ergonomic leg placement and exposed joinery highlighting the timber’s natural grain.
The Field Coffee Table is understated, with a low-profile form and clean geometry drawing on Japanese minimalism.
Each piece celebrates the love and care that has gone into planting and managing the trees on Yan Yan Gurt West Farm over the past 30 years, resulting in furniture designed to last generations.
The making of the Mark Tuckey x Main Studio collection and philosophy has been documented in a short film directed by Grace Moore. Watch the short film here, and shop the collection here.
