For us, hosting family and friends around a well-dressed table is one of life’s simple pleasures.
After spending so many hours in the kitchen cooking the meal itself, serving it up on beautiful plates just feels right. And with the festive season just around the corner, HAY has added a new tableware range to its covetable lineup.
The Barro Collection by Portuguese designer Rui Pereira features a mix of plates, bowls, butter dishes, cups, jugs, and candleholders made in Portugal from durable terracotta.
Barro — which means ‘clay’ in Portuguese — is a homage to the craftsmanship traditions of Rui’s home country and long history working with the natural material. For inspiration, he called to mind nostalgic memories of terracotta objects he’d seen at street markets, restaurants, and in people’s homes.
Functional and simple silhouettes were central to the design, with delicate proportions and subtle rolled edge that unites the various pieces. Plus, all Barro pieces are dishwasher and microwave-safe, ovenproof, and freezer-safe, making them perfect for everyday use.
The crockery comes in a joyful range of natural glazes and high-gloss colours, including Green, Dark Blue, Light Blue, Off White, Pink and Natural Terracotta, while certain dishes showcase hand-painted stripes.
But not all the pieces are available in all colours. Instead, Rui invites customers to mix and match depending on your personal style, creating a tablescape that will spark joy at your next dinner party!
