Seven years after launching online, ELLISON STUDIOS. has its first IRL space in Sydney — that’s open by appointment only.
The brand has taken over an entire floor inside the 1920s Edwards & Co. warehouse building in Surry Hills to create an immersive pop-up dubbed The Rental/Apartment II.
Carefully styled with some of ELLISON STUDIOS. new and bestselling pieces, the space is designed to feel like someone’s (very chic) loft apartment, which will host a string of launch events and dinner parties throughout this summer.
ELLISON STUDIOS. CEO and co-founder Leigh McKeown says the goal was to make visitors feel like they were stepping into the brand’s highly curated Instagram feed.
‘As a design brand founded through the lens of social media, we have spent years sharing our creative vision digitally. The Rental presented us with an opportunity to take that experience into the real world,’ he says.
‘In a way, it’s our modern-day sharehouse – though much nicer than the ones I experienced when I was younger.’
The converted building has preserved many of its original features, with sweeping floor-to-ceiling windows and 100-year-old hardwood floors that create a perfect backdrop for ELLISON STUDIOS.’ nostalgic aesthetic.
The new Stack Sofa is on display in the light-filled living room, along with favourites like the Huggy swivel armchair. And alongside the brand’s wider collection of furniture, lighting and homewares, there’s a collection of designer icons, from Marcel Breuer’s vintage Wassily chair to a range of Akari lighting by Isamu Noguchi.
Talk about a dream rental!
