Like many interior designers, Folk Studio director Mariah Burton spends a lot of time hunting for unique pieces of furniture and art for her clients.

After years of getting questions about where items in her projects are from (with many being custom-made), she decided it was time to flex her creative muscles in a new way, launching online shop Folk Home.

The first drop is now live, revealing a mix of homewares curated by Mariah alongside a collaborative range of lighting designed with McMullin, and a debut collection of furniture.

‘Folk has always been an extension of who I am, and this feels just as personal,’ she says.

The collection features a sculptural wine rack crafted from solid American oak where the bottles almost appear to float in the air. It comes after Folk Studio produced similar pieces for their recent client projects.

Meanwhile, the Nook Chair features a wavy iron frame, with one of the legs adorned in beautiful teak beads — taking inspiration from the braided hairstyles decorated with beads Mariah wore growing up.

‘In recent years, I’ve found a deep connection to my heritage, particularly what it means to be half African-American, and how that has shaped my design style,’ she adds.

‘I want people to say, “I have’t seen anything like that before”, when they look at the pieces.’

Plus, you can also shop a playful cap with Folk Studio’s unofficial slogan ‘Hey Folks’ that’s perfect for the upcoming summer season.
