Whilst building a striking new home is the dream for some people, many others are inspired to transform their current home into something more. These exciting journeys are what ABC’s new lifestyle series captures in Grand Designs Transformations.
Co-hosted by Yasmine Ghoniem, Director of YSG Studio, and Anthony Burke, a Professor of Architecture and the host of the ABC’s Restoration Australia, this exciting new series follows the journeys of some of Australia’s boldest home renovators.
Each episode Yasmine and Anthony will visit two very different projects in different parts of the country, including a pink palace on Queensland’s Gold Coast, a French inspired convict cottage in Tasmania and a tree-top eco retreat in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula (plus many more).
‘I think my absolute favourite reveal would be the hard work of a tenacious couple who embarked on a very ambitious transformation of a 60s duplex into a Moroccan-inspired riad nestled in the mountains of NSW,’ says Yasmine. ‘Creating a Marrakesh in the mountains… it doesn’t get more challenging than that.’
The show will explore renovations across multi-generation living, downsizing, sustainability, and harnessing dreams on a budget — promising inspiration for all.
Grand Designs Transformations, premiers on ABC TV and ABC iview, Thursday 4 January, 8pm.
