Marc Martin is an insanely talented Melbourne-based artist and illustrator, and someone I have long admired. His charming, painterly illustrations have been commissioned by clients such as Monocle, Wired, The Financial Review, GQ, Telstra, and The Australian Centre for the Moving Image. He has also authored and illustrated five beautiful children’s books published by Penguin Random House: A Forest (2012), The Curious Explorers Illustrated Guide to Exotic Animals A-Z (2013), Max (2014), A River (2015), and LOTS (2016).
Follow, Marc’s second solo exhibition, is a collection of original watercolour and gouache paintings on paper, inspired by the artist’s time in Taiwan and Singapore. Here, in run-down alleyways and side streets, Marc identified a feeling of ‘post-humanness’. These paintings focus on the beauty in that decay and abandonment, and explore the idea of a world where nature seems to take over the urban landscape, and stray animals are free to roam.
‘I like to think of the animals in the paintings as my spirit animals – guides on a journey through these abandoned landscapes’ says Marc.
Please join us, and Marc, for the opening of Follow next Saturday, August 18th – and in the spirit of the theme, we’re extending an invitation to all your canine/furry friends, too!
All the works in this show are now pictured on the TDF Collect website, and are available to purchase via email from today – enquiries, email elle@thedesignfiles.net.
