We might be embarrassed to admit it, but a most of us have that one neglected room, shed, or garage shelf that’s full of old stuff you’ve been meaning to get rid of since forever.

Well, sustainable construction business Revival Projects is all about salvaging used materials to fight the war on waste. Since 2016, they’ve opened a number of repurposing hubs in Melbourne, and now they’re hoping to make it easier than ever to reduce, reuse and recycle your things with their new app, Revival Cooperative.

The app works a bit like Facebook Marketplace, but everything on it is free to a good home. People list stuff they no longer have use for (think timber offcuts, building materials, old windows, lights, furniture and more) and can also scroll the listings to find things they might need.

The idea is that you’ll be able to find people who can give your materials a new lease on life – rather than sending it to landfill. Because as the saying goes, ‘one person’s trash is another person’s treasure’!

‘Revival designed the app as a platform for connecting with your community and handling existing resources… so that they never become waste at all,’ Revival Projects managing director Robbie Neville explains.

Robbie says anyone can use it, whether you’re a designer, builder, developer, school, workplace or your average household. It’s just about eliminating the ‘headache’ around getting rid of ‘useful’ things in a more sustainable way.

‘If everyone began using the app today, we would see an immediate reduction in landfill right now – that is power to the people!’

You can download Revival Cooperative for free on the App Store or via Google Play.
